Mercheașa wood-pasture

Mercheașa – Streitfort – Mirkvásár has one of the largest ancient oak wood-pasture from Central and Eastern Europe. Its size is over 1200 hectares and the number of oaks (Quercus robur and Q. petraea) with at least 400 cm trunk circumference at 130 cm hight exceeds 450. The largest oak, named and protected recently as „The old of the Carpathinas” (in Romanian „Bătrânul Carpaților”) has a girth of 927 cm and its estimated age is between 500 and 900 years.
